Loose Incense

Everyone and their uncle use incense. It’s nothing new, been around for thousands of years. The incense we know today are mostly stick and cone types that have lots of binders and extras in them to help stay together and stay lit.

A few months ago I was introduced to loose incense, powder incense, and resin incense. I had a hard time figuring out what to do with at first when I got my first jar. Was I supposed to just light it? No it went out too fast. Keep it out like potpourri? No, none of the scent came from it and none of its magical properties were being used just sitting there.

Then I found the accessory that went with it. Charcoal discs! They stay lit for forty-five minutes to two hours and let you use as much or as little incense as you want. All types of loose incense are made and here at the Candle Wick Shoppe we have all types from Patchouli and Dragon’s Blood Resin to Love Attraction and Meditation.

Selenite! It’s a stone often considered a must have in everyone’s witchy kit.

What is it and why is it so great? Selenite is a very fragile clear stone that crumbles when put under pressure, but if worked correctly it becomes a smooth strong stone. It belongs to the third eye and crown chakras, as well as the lesser known transpersonal and etheric chakras.

That was what selenite is and where it belongs. What it’s good for is cleansing. The reason it’s a staple for most energy based witches is because it cleanses auric and personal energy. It clears out negative energy like a champ. Selenite is often used in healing massages and reiki massages. It clears the paths in your chakra and in your life. It’s a great stone to have on hand and to have with your other stones to keep their energy nice and clean.

Here at the Candle Wick Shoppe we have a couple versions!

You can find us in Ferndale at 175 W Nine Mile Road.

Weekly Staff Pick- Pink Himalayan Salt Lamps

20190320121804Pink Himalayan sea salt lamps! You’ve probably heard of them before. Everyone was talking about them not to long ago, but what is it actually meant to do? Look aesthetically pleasing? Cure all my diseases? Just make people think I’m cool and spiritually inclined?

To make a long story short, a salt lamp doesn’t do much for internal medicine. At this point in history, there is no research pointing to a salt lamp curing all that ails you. What it does do, however, is help with your spiritual healing. It can help with anxiety and sleep issues because it has a calming, grounding energy. There have been studies that the low light of the salt lamp is better in the evening than the harsh overhead lights in your ceiling.  The study said that going from bright lights to pitch black makes it harder to fall asleep; whereas going to a dimmer les harsh light before turning your lights out completely triggers the brain to prepare for rest.

That being said, the salt lamp grounds the energy and clears the mind: I highly recommend it for people who suffer from anxiety, depression, and ADHD. It helps with all of that for me and most of the people I asked about it.

We have them here at the shop!

Sage is Back!

WeeklyPick3 5sageSage bundles!

What are they? What do they do? How do I use them? Why would I use them?

The answers are simple, really.

A bundle of sage, or a smudge stick as they are known for Native American practices, is just that! A bundle of dried sage. Sometimes you can find them with other herbs tied in for different purposes, like yerba santa, roses, and basil. Today though, let’s talk about straight up sage sticks.

To put it simply, the smoke of the sage cleanses an area, object, or being of all active energy. What that means is, any energy in that area will dissipate until you bring it back in. Good, bad, and neutral. I suggest that when you sage an area, you call in the good energies while casting out the bad. Also open your windows while burning any product that produces a lot of smoke like sage does. This also allows the energy to go out with the smoke. And because sage smoke smells like a burning Italian restaurant.

Now the all-important questions, why should you use the sage bundles? Have you been feeling bogged down? Like your life is in a rut? Sage will help you feel better. Not only will it make your aura energy lighter, it will make you feel like you’re being productive, which you are. Over all, sage is just a good cleansing herb that everyone should use. Just remember, white sage is endangered and blue sage works just the same!

March is upon us!

Staff Monthly Picks

This month to go along with fresh starts, our staff pick is the Evil Eye and Hasam! The Evil Eye is a wonderful protective charm that appeared around the world in many cultures around the same time. It is named after the thing it protects from, which is a curse sent by a malevolent glare. For the month of March 2019 all Evil Eye products are 15% off.

The Hasam is a variation of the Evil Eye that has the eye in the center of a hand, meant to bring luck as well as protection.

 Witchy Tips

Scented candles can work in place of herbs, all that matters is your intention. Essential oils also work in place of fresh herbs, just remember to dilute it before putting it on your skin! Always check your city/state laws about collecting rain water for spells.

Remember; you can always reach us at www.candlewickshoppe.com/ or call us at (248) 547-2987. We take phone and web orders, hope to hear from you soon!

Weekly Staff Pick: Pendulums, The Entrance to Divination

2019021619175120190216194438368Want to get into divination but Tarot decks are don’t mean anything to you yet? Pendulums are the answer! They also give the answers. My first forray into divination was a simple pendulum, made out of a necklace chain and a ring, after I saw it done in an episode of Charmed. Now I have crystal and metal pendulums that resonate with my own energy better than a simple ring ever could. A pendulum is one of the easiest and simplest forms of divination, which is why I chose it to be my staff pick of the week. The easiest way to use it is to ask it yes and no questions, then you can move onto pendulum boards to have it spell out the answer for you. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s more affordable than a deck of tarot cards

.Come on in to the Candle Wick Shoppe to get your own!
