Ancestor work is one of the oldest, most universal forms of spiritual practice. It includes any way that we acknowledge, honor, or communicate with those that came before us. While ancestor work might be associated in your mind with indigenous cultures, the fact is, we ALL have ancestors – none of us have magically sprung into being! It’s a large part of some mainstream faiths such as Judaism, and anyone can do ancestor work.

The October beginner's kit focuses on ancestor work (just in time for Samhain!)
What makes someone an ancestor? Ancestors are often those from whom we are physically descended, but can also include spiritual, cultural, community, and other types of ancestors. (This can be especially important if you don’t know or are otherwise disconnected from your biological family of origin.) Be mindful of calling upon the ancestors of others – this is deeply personal work and you should have a connection to the ancestors you choose to honor. Remember: this is YOUR practice.
Ancestor work can be a way to come to a better understanding of our own family relationships – especially troubled ones – and offer closure, forgiveness, or a clearer understanding of a path forward. It can offer clarity and peace as we chart our own destinies.
This month’s kit includes:
- 2 black and 2 white candles, a core element of rituals
- Blessed Herbals Ancestor oil, with a blend of peppermint and musk
- Shredded money, for asking the ancestors’ help with prosperity and success along your path
- Mugwort for protection and to give a boost to your psychic powers
- Yarrow for courage, gratitude, and assistance in making connection with the ancestors
- Angelite to help you connect with your spirit guides and clarify your inner vision
- Celestite to bring a sense of calm and peace and elevate your spirit.
However you choose to begin your ancestor work, this kit will help you focus and connect.
