Today, I am ready...

I am ready... I am ready to embrace love again. I am ready to spread love

again. The kind that floats in the air and settles into the hearts of the

unsettled. I am ready to stand with my community and help that love to grow

- exponentially.

Today with the news of how many people are in the throws of denying human

rights to others I am taken aback and reminded that I am the change that I

wish to see in the world. Gandhi said it and lived it. I am

reminded that through his life, Gandhi saw the beginning seeds of human

rights in his country, he saw the growth of human rights and he saw the

push back from those who stood in fear of those human rights. He then saw

the implementation of those human rights at the end of his life. He was

the change.

I am no where near the level of divinity and social consciousness

of Gandhi, but I am the center of my own little world and I must be the

change - I must be the love.

We are, right now, in this lifetime, experiencing the tipping point of

great change. Those who hold the power are living in fear of loosing

their privilege, of leveling the playing field and finally having to

compete equally. Mirrors are a difficult thing to have thrust upon you,

as they destroy the fantasy you have build up for so long. We are all

looking in uncomfortable mirrors where we are always the good guy.

Human rights are uncomfortable and messy. When you offer them to

everyone, especially those unlike you, it's difficult to wrap your brain

around their life circumstances. When you do not believe as they do, love

as they do or have lived the victimization they did, how can you relate?

How can you create the empathy needed to offer them these rights without

judgement? It is easy to say "Someone needs to do something" or "That's

just not right", but the true power of being the change you wish to see in

the world is to actually do something, or stand up when hate is louder than

love.

I apologize today to all of those people I did not stand up for.

I apologize for all the hate I allowed to pass by me without comment or

push back. I am practicing to get better. I am stepping into the world

of change one foot at a time and I ask that you remind me when I am

retreating.

Because today, I am ready to embrace love again.
